The St. Louis Cemetery Board has seen a need to implement some guidelines concerning the placement of decorations etc. in the cemetery.
Everyone’s cooperation in keeping the cemetery appearance neat and respectful will be greatly appreciated. The following guidelines are now in effect:
Families are responsible for clearing of decorations. They need to be removed by mid to late June.
No Glass Containers
Only one marker per grave space
Monument care is a family responsibility
No planting or digging of any kind
No statues, fencing, benches or yard art of any kind
We ask the above mentioned items be removed at the earliest possible time.
In the early 1870’s, before the church was built, one acre of land, north of the existing church, was donated by Herman Hunkey for the cemetery and his own son, Louis Hunkey, was the first person to be buried there in 1882. Since then, Schletzbaum families, (owners of the land adjacent to the cemetery) have donated land for the cemetery increasing it’s size to 2.2 acres
As of May 31, 2005, there have been 427 burials
